School suspends student for refusing to take part in “National Walkout Day” gun control protest

While there remain some exceptions, the vast majority of the public school system has been hijacked by Marxists who believe public schools are for political indoctrination, not educating future generations of well-prepared American citizens.

Like college and university campuses, public schools are now increasingly being politicized by the Left, as evidenced last week during a “National Walkout Day” on the one-month anniversary of the Parkland, Fla., shooting.

Rather than protest the fact that the armed deputy serving as the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School resource officer and his fellow deputies hid outside the school as Nikolas Cruz rampaged and killed 17 people inside, students around the country are being brainwashed into believing that the NRA, Republicans, and President Donald J. Trump are most responsible — because they all happen to believe that the Second Amendment’s firearms ownership guarantee is as important as Americans’ First Amendment right to…protest.

But one student in Hilliard, Ohio, who wished to remain above the fray and not take either side of the argument was punished by his school district because he also refused to be indoctrinated.

As reported by the Independent Journal-Review, Hilliard Davidson High School senior David Shoemaker refused to take part in the walkout, opting instead to stay away from the mostly anti-gun protest, remaining in class rather than attending an alternative “study hall.”

Shoemaker defended his actions by stating (correctly, in my view) that divisive politics have no place in the American public school system. As such, he refused to take either side of the debate.

For that he received a suspension, which was posted online — possibly by a friend — and quickly went viral, IJR reported.

“Student refused to follow instructions after being warned repeatedly by several administrators,” the suspension letter states. “Student not permitted on school property.”

Boy, and to think it took several acts of violence to finally kick Nikolas Cruz out of school; all Shoemaker did was refuse to be a lemming. (Related: Harvard to punish students who join single-gender social clubs on campus.)

IJR noted that the school district spokesperson, Stacie Raterman, said official school policy prohibited officials from leaving Shoemaker alone in the building for “security reasons.”

Fine; but it seems to me that school officials had made the decision to allow the protest and walkout in the first place, thereby creating the conditions for Shoemaker’s ‘disobedience.’ He had expressed no desire to participate in any way, shape, or form in the protest — and participation would have included attendance at an “alternate study hall” that was created as a direct result of the protest. And besides, shouldn’t the school have ensured that someone accounted for Shoemaker, who had no power to stop administrators from allowing the walkout to begin with?

So what school administrators are really saying is that they’ve decided to punish this kid because he didn’t take part in a politically motivated protest that frankly should not have occurred during normal school hours in the first place.

Schools are for educating our children about how our political system works, not serving as indoctrination factories for the Alt-Left. The walkout, if it had to happen at all, should not have been a “walkout” at all; it should have been a demonstration on school grounds after the normal school day, or on a weekend so that nobody has to miss any class time at all.

No matter how Raterman and the school district try to spin this, they have punished young Shoemaker for not accepting, verbatim, a rabid, radical, nonsensical condemnation of a basic American (and human) right — the freedom to obtain and use an available technological means to defend one’s self from harm. What this school has also done through its punitive action is demonstrate that anyone who opposes Marxism does not deserve the right of refusal or the freedom to choose another path.

Then again, conservatism may have gained a lifelong believer and adherent, which isn’t a bad thing at all.
